FASET Platform Decking

CSCS Approved – Platform Decking Installers card

As the founding member of Platform Decking within the temporary safety systems trade association, FASET. G&M Safety Netting Ltd are proud to announce the FASET Platform Installer CSCS Skilled worker card is now available though FASET Training centre trainers.

As a leading platform decking manufacturer, our sister company G&M Safe Deck Ltd recognised early on that platform decking systems would come to be the preferred fall prevention method utilised by house builders up and down the country. Therefore we approached the temporary safety systems trade association, FASET.

House building & Platform Decking – Background

Prior to the use of platform decking systems in house building. Some house builders opted to use scaffolding bird cages to deck out their plots. However this proved to be a very expensive and time consuming solution. As a result, house builders would lean towards the use of bean bags for protecting their workforce. Safety Netting would also be used as a method of fall protection. From our experience as Safety Net Installation experts we could see that nets were not the answer. More over the structures did not offer the load capacity’s or clearance distances needed for Safety Nets to work correctly.  Where as with bean bags the fall height was too great.

The Work at Height Regulations require that work at height is planned and organised, and so far as is reasonably practicable work at height should be avoided. Where work at height cannot be avoided measures must be taken to either prevent the fall, or minimise the distance and consequences of a fall down to a reasonable level.

This is where platform decking comes in, as it prevents the fall, where as Safety Netting does not although it does minimise the distance and consequences of a fall. Unfortunately Air/Bean bags do neither.

An existing member of FASET, both in Safety Net Installation and training. We were ideally situated to start the process of obtaining a recognised CSCS carded training scheme for platform decking installation. Working closely with FASET and other platform decking manufacturers. A committee was setup, to work towards an industry best practice guide and training scheme for installers of platform decking systems.

Where we are now

The FASET Platform Decking Committee and working group have continued to work towards the training scheme. Now approved by the FASET Board and the Platform Decking committee & working group. We can now offer FASET Training in Platform Installation and Inspection
